Tawny eagle Sun 7 December 2008 08:01:36 AM Brought in by a local farmer. |
Late on Friday afternoon an injured tawny eagle was brought to the rehab centre after it was found by a local farmer. He told us that the eagle was flapping around in a road and unable to fly. We immediately suspected that it had been hit by a motor vehicle. It was in pretty bad condition and it was not possible to transport it to the veterinary clinic about 60km away. It was treated for shock, no immediate obvious wounds could be seen, but we did not want to do a full examination as the bird was pretty stressed out. It survived the night and yesterday a full examination revealed a broken wing. For now it is being force fed and anti-biotics given. Tomorrow morning it will be taken to the vet clinic for X-rays and if at all possible, a pin will be inserted in the wing. We just hope and pray that the break is not us such a nature that the eagle has to be put down. However let's remain positive for now, at least it is fighting for its life and its condition has improved. We will keep you posted. | |
