Arrived all the way from Prieska in the Northern Cape.
On the 29th October an email was received from a guy in Prieska, many, many kilometres from SanWild. He asked for help with the hand raising of 2 genets kittens found orphaned on his farm. The necessary permits to relocate the genet kittens were obtained from the various conservation departments and the two kittens was flown to Johannesburg OR Tambo and were collected from a guest house early the morning after their arrival. As SanWild is situated another 4.5 hours by road from Johannesburg, we made arrangements with FreeMe to collect the kittens and hold them until we could drive down and fetch them. This was a good arrangement in hindsight as both kittens arrived very weak and with severe diarrhoea. The male died shortly after being collected and the young female was in no physical condition to be transported yet another 500km. She was fighting for her life. With the expert care and love from FreeMe, she slowly regained her physical strength and was brought to SanWild last week. She is doing very well and has increased her weight substantially. She will be cared for until she is big enough to be returned to the wild.
