SanWild has an amazing bush camp and we welcome guests to the reserve to meet rescued animals and see how well they have adjusted back to a life in the wild.  When guests stay in the Savannah Private Bush Camp we invite them to submit entries to our guest book.  Here you will be able to read about their experiences and daily sightings.

Pangolins and other creatures

Visiting this sanctuary has been an experience I will never forget. For the 1st time I saw a real live pangolin; this made our entire trip worthwhile. What an amazing animal. Much larger than I anticipated! The young caracal still being held at the rehab centre is also so beautiful. I cannot think why people are allowed to shoot them in South Africa. They most be one of the most amazing smaller cat species. This one is really a "happy cat" and spends most of his days playing. Louise is most definatley his favourite person and he spots here from way off, softly calling for her to give him some attention. It is going to be difficult for the team to let this animal return to the wild. He is really loved at the centre.

Thanks for an amazing time; Gary and Ellen you are great and we had a ball!

A great elephant bull

Last week we spent an enjoyable time at SanWild, but I have to tell you about my experience with the large elephant bull named Bukisa. Earlier that morning I had offered to drive the watercar and tractor for SanWild that fill up the various watering points. Soon after leaving camp we came across a tree that had been felled across the road by the elephants. Walter, employee of SanWild and myself started chopping away the branches to clear the road. When the tractor could pass, I suggested he continue to clear the road while I drive about another 200m to fill the waterhole. As I was standing by the waterhole I suddenly became aware of a presence; not more than 50 meters away stood a huge elephant bull quietly watching me. The heart jumped in my throat and I moved to the tractor with wabbling legs. I had no need to worry; as I drove off he approached the waterhole and started drinking - what a great experience for me!

Grandpa and Todd

My family and I stayed at the Bukisa’s tented camp this past week and I can most definitely recommend a stay here. We were fortunate to be able to afford the entire camp on the self-catering option and it afforded us the opportunity to bring grandpa and grandma along as well. The kids had a great time identifying birds around the camp area, but Todd almost freaked when he spotted the elephant herd strolling past the camp to the waterhole just below. It will be the most memorable of his entire stay. My son is only 9 years old and the stay here was a true adventure. The staff has a lot of patience with the young guests and rangers do take trouble to answer their questions and make them feel at home. The adventure for my son and his two young friends staying in a tent in the wilderness on their own; though being warned to not stray around the camp at night; had him calling we on a short wave radio a couple of times before they finally fell asleep the 1st night. My father enjoyed spending time with his grandson and friends as they now live in Australia and this was their only visit for the next four years. Thanks to the staff who made our stay so memorable.

Amazing sanctuary

We arrived at SanWild late on Saturday night and to be frank I was quite bushed and tired after a crazy three week trip in South Africa. After a lovely supper we retired and I fell asleep within seconds only to be woken up by the roar of lions in the early hours of the morning. Around the breakfast table we were told that the lions we heard calling during the night were in actual fact a pair of neighbouring lions that decided to visit the reserve to feast off a blue wildebeest. I just loved the idea of wild Africa and here I was, with people dear to me and in a place where injured wildlife had found a new safe home - paradise!! We had great sightings of many species of wildlife, but my favourites by far, was the herd of elephants. Just feel sorry for the heavily pregnant cow, she is ready to burst! We absolutely enjoyed our stay at SanWild and have already booked again for next year. Thanks so much to the team for their great work. Keep up your efforts; you have created an amazing sanctuary.

Third Visit and we will be back!

I have just finished my third visit to Sanwild but this time as a guest and with my wife. It was a shock that she decided to overcome her fear of spiders and snakes and come with me. It was an even bigger shock when I had to buy two airline tickets.

We arrived at Phalabowra and were met by Gary and Ellen and were soon settled into the camp.During our stay they both looked after us extremely well and produced some wonderful cooking. Much better than volunteer cooking.

We were able to enjoy 2 game drives a day and I have never seen SanWild looking so green and lush. One of the highlights was to spend a night at the self catering Bukisa's Safari tented camp. A fantastic location which I hope is a success.

It was a bit strange for me not to have to pick up a paint brush but we both had a fantastic time in the company of John and Lynne from New Zealand and Gary and Ellen were the perfect hosts. We will return.

Best wishes
Steve
