| Fri 10 July 2009 08:53:28 AM - Diary by Elainne Vos Spotted hyena at Bukisa's camp We were staying at Bukisa's camp last weekend when we are woken up by some sniffing around the outside of the tent. To our absolute surprise a young spotted hyena was seen. It soon disappeared in the thicket behind the camp; just to emerge a couple minutes later with yet another friend. However the moment we moved inside the tent they get a very big fright and just ran off as if their lives were in serious danger. Louise told us that spotted hyenas were not introduced to the reserve, but that these newcomers had possibly come in from other farms/reserves adjoining the SanWild Sanctuary. On some of the private properties spotted hyena like cheetahs, wild dogs and leopards are mostly persecuted. Here fortunately the pair will be safe if only they choose to stay and not move on. |

Gary's drives and information were sublime!!! Put the two together and you have a winning hospitality team,thank you so much!!! We had everything: from charging elephant to minutes of complete silence in which to listen and feel part of a great universe......extraordinary!!!! May you be richly blessed in all your endeavours. The food was delicious....Ellen the Red Snapper was ***** Gary- what a thrilling game drive.....I got quite a fright when "Wireless (White rhino bull)" came around the corner!!! Nice drinks around the open fire place and great company.....we will be back. |
