SanWild has an amazing bush camp and we welcome guests to the reserve to meet rescued animals and see how well they have adjusted back to a life in the wild.  When guests stay in the Savannah Private Bush Camp we invite them to submit entries to our guest book.  Here you will be able to read about their experiences and daily sightings.

Mike has nerves of steel

Mike, the camp manager at Sanwild and our ranger certainly has nervous of steel. One of the elephant bulls are not too happy with life at the moment and on our game drive he decided to come and do a very close inspection. I would actually feel my heart beating in my throat, but Mike was as cool as a bucket of ice in the Sahara desert. His response made us all feel very secure and safe. For the 1st time in our lives we were privileged to look into an elephant's piercing brown eyes. Amazing! We were also told that a small mining company wants to do open cast mining in the reserve and we were taken to the intended mine site where this group had cut down numerous trees and are putting up a fence; Sanwild is bringing a very expensive legal application to protect the elephants home and we are delighted that the proceeds of our stay will be used to fight this legal battle.

White rhino walks

Have you ever walked on a trail looking for rhinos? Well I have and I must admit the trails at Sanwild is just amazing. Guess what happened? We were looking for the rhinos when Tshu found us; she is a hand raised white rhino cow whose mother was killed by a poacher's snare. When Tshu was only two months old, her mother was found in a nearby reserve close to death. The cow had broken the snare off the tree to which it was attached, but the steel wire cut deep into her neck. She was badly injured but managed to stay alive; all involved recons that she wanted to ensure her calf's safety. Fortunately she was found in time and was taken to a temporary holding place with her calf. Then a lot went wrong and I am not going to go into all of that now. However Tshu ended up being hand raised by Karen and then came to Sanwild to find a safe long-term home.

When she found us on the trail she decided to follow us. It is the 1st time that I know of a rhino that decided to go on a trail to watch humans. Absolutely amazing.

Great reserve

We have just had a great weekend at SanWild. The service is out of this world, the food great, but man; the animals are amazing. They all have a story to tell; a story of sadness and a story of a new life where they are protected and happy. Learning more about each animal and getting to know them is by far the greatest experience we have ever had. This personal touch; the animals themselves and knowing that my money has made a difference is what makes this place so very special. We will be back!

As passionate about nature...

Thank you so much Gary and Ellen. This was a wonderful week. We could not have done it without your hard work and hospitality. Louise, Andre and Karen it was a privilege to have met you and be among people that are as passionate about nature as I am.
